1. Describe how addictive processes impact a couple's ability to connect.
PRESENTERS:
James Thomas, LMFT is a Certified EFT Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer who directors Colorado Center for EFT. He has over 25 years of clinical and supervisory experience with a style described by trainees and supervisees as "warm, supportive and encouraging." Jim has worked with difficult and diverse populations from the beginning of his career. In his own life and in work with at-risk youth and families in inner city Denver to couples struggling at the Denver Family Institute to folks in his private practice, Jim sees the sometimes visible and often invisible thread of alcoholism and addiction that arises from and feeds insecure, incomplete emotional bonds.
Jim's own healing journey from substance abuse's impact on his family-of-origin, early childhood, his 12 Step work as an adult child of an alcoholic family system and work with John Bradshaw and others to uncover the secrets and shame that so often occur with addiction informs his EFT work, "Addiction can be like a Tsunami wrecking visible damage or more like pollution or a toxin subtly causing havoc in the family or couple's attachment system. In my life, I have seen both. As EFT Therapists, we have an obligation to learn about addiction, how it shows up in relationships, can shape or accentuate negative cycles and how the antidote exists in our therapy model."
He brings tremendous energy, deep compassion, and a seemingly natural talent for conveying EFT concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
Michael Barnett, PhD, LPC is a warm and knowledgeable humanistic therapist and presenter who has been in practice since 1988. He has worked in a multitude of settings over the years, with a wide variety of populations. He primarily works with adults and adolescents. His practice is in North East Atlanta where he offers individual, group, and marriage & couples therapy, as well as supervision and training for other therapists. In addition to his psychotherapeutic work, he has consulted with dozens of organizations for executive training development and team building. Michael trained with Dr. Susan Johnson and her colleagues since 2004 and is an ICEEFT Certified EFT Supervisor and Trainer offering Marriage and Couples Therapy trainings and workshops throughout the United States. Michael is one of the central components of the current research study on EFT with addicted populations. The study is slated for completion in 2015.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:
Twelve hours of CE credit are available to licensed Psychologists, LMFTs and LCSWs for attending this program.
NCCEFT is approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing professional education for psychologists. NCCEFT maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
This course meets the qualifications for 12 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
