EFT with Same-Sex Couples:
An Open Discussion

SUBJECT:
An open discussion regarding the application of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) with same-sex couples will be facilitated. How EFT is applied to same-sex couples will be discussed. Additionally, particular attention will be paid to various contextual variables and their attachment significance on the couple’s emotional bond.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:
1) Participants will be able to apply an attachment lens to various contextual variables presented by same-sex couples.
2) Participants will be able to apply the 9 steps of EFT with same-sex couples.
3) Participants will be able to identify two self of the therapist dynamics that could potentially help or hinder the therapeutic alliance.
PRESENTERS:
Mark Kaupp, PhD, LMFT is a certified Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) therapist, supervisor and trainer. He is also an adjunct professor in both Alliant International University and San Diego State University's COAMFTE approved graduate programs teaching Couple Therapy. He has a private practice in San Diego, conducts many seminars and trainings on the effective application of EFT and was featured on CBS’ 48 Hours as the primary EFT therapist working with a couple in creating a more loving relationship.
Additionally, Dr. Kaupp has a specific specialty focusing on Same-Gender couples and EFT. He has presented throughout North America on how to effectively apply the EFT process with Same-Sex couples and the specific issues therapists need to know when working from an EFT perspective with the LGBTQ population. Marjorie Chaset, LMFT is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in San Francisco and Oakland, California. She specializes in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy with partners from all lifestyles and orientations. With individual clients, she incorporates a trauma treatment therapy called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Marjie integrates EMDR with somatic and psychodynamic therapies to treat individuals who suffer from anxiety, grief and loss, mood disturbance, trauma, PTSD and attachment related injuries. Weaving together attachment theory, embodiment, emotion and mindful awareness, Marjie's work focuses on helping people create a more vibrant sense of self and deeper, more intimate connections with the people they love.
Marjie is a certified as clinical supervisor by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and provides supervision to MFT trainees and interns. She is an Assistant Professor at The California Institute of Integral Studies where she teaches Professional Ethics and Family Law in the Masters in Counseling Psychology Program. Dedicated to refining her skill, flexibility, strength and peace of mind, Marjie has been a yoga teacher, a yoga therapy practitioner and student of yoga for many years. She is also proud to serve as a member of the NCCEFT Steering Committee.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This training is appropriate for mental health practitioners who work or wish to work with couples using Emotionally Focused Therapy and same-sex couples.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Beginner to intermediate.
COST:
This training is free to members, who will receive Continuing Education (CE) credit at no charge. This training is available to non-members for $10, and CE credit is available for an additional $25. Payment may be made by cash or check made out to NCCEFT. As payment is collected at the door, no refunds or cancellations are available.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
Two hours of CE credit are available to licensed Psychologists, LMFTs and LCSWs for attending this program.
NCCEFT is approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing professional education for psychologists. NCCEFT maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
This course meets the qualifications for 2 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credit.
